2012 Cut and Dry NFL Mock Draft

Mock drafts are an imperfect science. They involve a lot of guess, and going with your gut. No mock draft author truly knows what any given team will do come draft day, you just make the most educated selection you can based on team needs, positional depth and of course the college performance of each player. We enjoy bucking trends by thinking a bit outside the box. Here is our 2012 NFL mock draft!

1. Indianapolis Colts - Andrew Luck (QB) Stanford
- A no brainer here. The Colts have notified Luck that he will be the pick.
Player Comparison : Aaron Rodgers

2. Washington Redskins - Robert Griffin III (QB) Baylor
- Much like the Luck pick, the Redskins move up for RG3. He'll be the guy.
Player Comparison : Cam Newton

3. Minnesota Vikings - Matt Kalil (OT) USC
- Being able to pair an elite calibre LT like Kalil with Ponder is exactly what the Vikings will look to do. Plug him in for the next decade much like Joe Thomas and Jake Long in recent years.
Player Comparison : Joe Thomas

4. Cleveland Browns - Ryan Tannehill (QB) Texas A&M
- This has to be the pick for Cleveland. They've struggle for far to long with average to poor QB play. Tannehill can come in when he's ready due to McCoy still being on the roster.
Player Comparison :  Tom Brady

5. Tampa Bay - Trent Richardson (RB) Alabama
- Absolute steal for the Bucs, he'll instantly be the teams starting RB with LeGarrette Blount there to spell him. In other years when RB was a need for the top 2-3 teams Richardson would get serious consideration for an even higher pick then this. The Bucs are thrilled!
Player Comparison : Maurice Jones-Drew

6. St.Louis Rams - Morris Claibourne (CB) LSU
- This pick goes a long way to helping what was a horrible defensive secondary last year. Claibourne will pair with Cortland Finnegan to make a good tandem.
Player Comparison Nnamdi Asomugha

7. Jacksonville Jaguars - Justin Blackmon (WR) Oklahoma St
- Hitting the Jack pot here, the Jaguars had the worst pass catchers in the league last year, Gabbert and MJD need help, Blackmon provides that on day 1.
Player Comparison : Anquan Boldin

8. Miami Dolphins - Michael Floyd (WR) Notre Dame
- After just missing on Blackmon and Tannehill the Dolphins turn to plan B. Losing Marshall leaves a big hole on offense that Floyd will help fill.
Player Comparison : Vincent Jackson

9. Carolina Panthers - Dre Kirkpatrick (CB) Alabama
- The Dallas Cowboys won't be happy about this, but physical CBs like Kirkpatrick don't last when they have the talent Dre does.
Player Comparison : Ike Taylor

10. Buffalo Bills - Riley Reiff (OT) Iowa
- The Bills probably would have loved a WR or CB here, but with the top 2 at both positions going, they look to sure up their offensive line with Reiff.
Player Comparison : Matt Light

11. Kansas City Cheifs - Luke Kuechly (MLB) Boston College
- The Cheifs will be looking to address the interior offensive line as well, but at this value position of the draft, I don't like guard as a possibility.
Player Comparison : Paul Posluszny

12. Seattle Seahawks - Melvin Ingram (DE) South Carolina
- Some mockers like Ingram going top 10, I think this is a better spot for him. Definitely one of the best pass rushers available.
Player Comparison : Elvis Dumervil

13. Arizona Cardinals - David DeCastro (OG) Stanford
- DeCastro is to good a prospect to let slip any further. The Cardinals will be looking at offensive lineman so they should be very pleased with who most consider to be the top interior offensive lineman available.
Player Comparison : Steve Hutchinson

14. Dallas Cowboys - Stephon Gilmore (CB) South Carolina
- Gilmore is a fast riser leading up to the draft, definitely a splash pick that Jerry Jones would approve of, I believe he'll be over drafted and personally like Jenkins and Dennard more, but think the Cowboys will go Gilmore.
Player Comparison : Asante Samual

15. Philadelphia Eagles - Cordy Glenn (OG/OT) Georgia
- I think the Eagles jump all over Cordy with DDC and Reiff off the board. He can be plugged right into the Eagle line at multiple positions. Powerful run blocker with lots of room to be "coached up"
Player Comparison : Marcus McNeil

16. New York Jets - Mark Barron (S) Alabama
- 3rd Crimson Tide player off the board, (and we're not done). Barron comes with some injury concern but I believe will be the best defensive back take in this draft (including the CBs) He is an extremely intelligent secondary player that fills a huge hole in the Jet defense.
Player Comparison : Sean Taylor (RIP)

17. Cincinnati Bengals (fr OAK) - Courtney Upshaw (DE) Alabama
- I think Upshaw is going to be better suited playing mostly 4-3. Definitely capable in both alignments, but with the Bengals he'll keep his hand in the dirt and absolutely rack up impact players for them immediately.
Player Comparison : Terrell Suggs

18. San Diego Chargers - Nick Perry (OLB) USC
- Perry is a likely convert to 3-4 OLB, a definite need for the Chargers. Top end pass rushers will come at a premium at this point of the draft. The Chargers are lucky to land Perry here.
Player Comparison : Lamar Woodley

19. Chicago Bears - Coby Fleener (TE) Stanford
- The Bears add another weapon to their nicely developing offense. With Martz out in Chicago, expect Mike Tice to make much more use of the position.
Player Comparison : Jeremy Shockey

20. Tennessee Titans - Fletcher Cox (DT) Mississippi State
- Fletcher is an absolutely beast that could play multiple positions along the Titan defensive line. He's the type of player that they can build around on the interior.
Player Comparison : Richard Seymour

21. Cincinnati Bengals - Janoris Jenkins
- Well, if anyone was going to take him, why not the Bengals? If he gets his act together he has the physical tools to be in the same calibre of player as Claibourne and Kirkpatrick. Possibly better, that's what the Bengals are hoping.
Player Comparison : Antonio Cromartie

22. Cleveland Browns (fr ATL) - Stephen Hill (WR) Georgia Tech
- The Browns make a boom pick here with Hill. After selecting Tannehill they decide to get him a vertical threat. Greg Little has proved that he's a very solid underneath WR, but the Browns need a player like Hill that can take it all the way.
Player Comparison : A.J Green

23. Detriot Lions - Dont'a Hightower (MLB) Alabama
- The Lions would have loved for Jenkins or Barron to fall further, but to many teams needed secondary help, short of trading down they take another player would can make an impact at the linebacker level of their defense. They won't regret this pick.
Player Comparison : Patrick Willis

24. Pittsburgh Steelers - Jonathan Martin (OT) Stanford
- Pretty clear to me that the Steelers need the best tackle available. There offensive line was atrocious at times last year. Martin is a step in the right direction.
Player Comparison : Trent Williams

25. Denver Broncos - Dontari Poe (DT/NT) Memphis
- This could be a potential nightmare for NFL offensive lines. If Poe translates well to NFL competition the attention he may draw, or not have on him because of Miller and Dumervil edge rushing could create huge match up issues for offensive lines around the league.
Player Comparison : Haloti Ngata

26. Houston Texans - Rueben Randle (WR) LSU
- I think the Texans are one serious WR threat away from truly becoming an elite passing attack. They've got by just fine with Andre Johnson and his complementary weapons, however, adding Randle opposite him could put them over the top.
Player Comparison : Donald Driver

27. New England Patriots - Quinton Coples (DE/DT) North Carolina
- The Patriots will be drawn towards Coples because of his position versatility. He has the potential to play 43 DE, 34 DE or 43 DT. He's got a long frame with room to add bulk. Pressure from the defensive line is a must need for the Pats.
Player Comparison : Justin Tuck

28. Green Bay Packers - David Wilson (RB) Virginia Tech
- The packers are clearly using a committee approach to their RB situation and I believe they get great value late in the 1st round to select the RB of their choosing. David Wilson is my number 2 guy after Richardson.
Player Comparison : C.J Spiller

29. Baltimore Ravens - Bobby Massie (OT) Mississippi
- The Ravens may look at adding another WR or help on the front 7, but I think Massie makes the most sense. They need a long term answer at LT, hopefully Massie can be that.
Player Comparison : Sebastian Vollmer

30. San Fransisco 49ers - Michael Brockers (DE/DT) LSU
- Best player available for the 49ers who've done a great job addressing needs in free agency. Brockers could turn out to be a solid 5 technique for them in the future. No real need to rush him along either, especially given his age.
Player Comparison : Cullen Jenkins

31. New England Patriots - Peter Konz (C/G) Wisconsin
- The Patriots have Koppen and Connolly back for this season, but are in need of some depth on the interior of their offensive line. Brian Waters was great last year but his age and other injury concerns make addressing this position a must.
Player Comparison : Matt Birk

32. New York Giants - Doug Martin (RB) Boise State
- The Giants have the luxury of going BPA here as well, no glaring needs to fill, possible some help at linebacker. Other then that, they feel safe drafting a new running mate for Ahmed Bradshaw. Martin does everything well, and could contribute on 3rd down initially, but may work himself into a 50/50 share with Bradshaw moving forward.
Player Comparison : Ray Rice
